I have always been an avid fan of mathematics and consistently use it as a means to relax and grow. I have participated and received recognition in several math competitions such as MathCounts, AMC and AIME, Math Kangaroo, and many others. These competitions are to thank for my interest in mathematics in the first place. I remember ever since first grade I would study math to prepare for the annual math bee hosted by a non-profit called BigHelp. With a tangible goal in mind and numerous online resources, I was more motivated to dive into the world of math.
Furthermore, I felt that I always was curious to look at the backsides of the numerous applications and masked parts of mathematical ideas and theorems. When I was learning how to estimate the number of prime numbers in a certain range using logarithms, I was inspired to develop a method or formula to find primes and accidentally came across Mersenne primes. And when teaching math at the Shrewsbury Public Library for example, I was teaching how to use modular arithmetic to solve a Chinese Remainder Theorem problem, I was also learning how to apply the Euler totient function to help with solving a prime numbers problem while I was looking into its application for Rivest–Shamir–Adleman (RSA) encryption behind the curtain. It is this attention to detail and looking at further applications that continues to fuel my growth in math to this day. Here is a diagram detailing RSA encryption. Click to learn more!
